A little bit about me…
Hi! I am Sophie, an interior design student in my final year at Cardiff Metropolitan University, (ahhhh!) but am looking forward to getting started on my career and add what I can to the industry.
My Background
A main inspiration of mine is pattern and textiles, I grew up playing with the scraps of fabric from my mum's projects and making my own things from them. I also helped her with choosing fabrics when I was older and have since found that I have continued this into interior design and project are often inspired by wallpaper patterns or different textiles.
My University Experience
I have such a love for interior design and it has been my dream since I was in primary school, so that fact it was everything I had dreamed of, is even more special.
My skills in Sketch Up have improved drastically from my brief experience before university, and I am now skilled in AutoCAD, InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator and hand drawing. Although my favourite way to communicate my designs is by adding to my hand drawn sketches with digital software to create a collage style visual.
Throughout my final year I have been developing my personal design style and what I’d like to be recognised by and that is definitely my sketchy style for initial ideas. Whilst doing this, I have been conscious to try different concepts and expand outside my comfort zone, to find my limitations and strengths in interior design.
My Future
I can’t wait to start in the industry and to begin seeing projects come to life, some of the projects I’ve enjoyed most throughout university have been those that provide for the community and restore current buildings. I think it is very important to continue to use the space that surround us and breathe new life into them to give them a second chance, as well as being conscious with our building materials and techniques. As a future designer I understand my responsibility to our world and how to minimise the impact on the environment as little as possible.
