Sustainable Lighting
I choose this project as lighting used to be an afterthought in my first-year designs and I wanted to increase my knowledge of lighting and design my own. This project was based around sustainability, so we used a steam bending technique that is common for creating furniture pieces however we used it on a smaller scale. There is not a lot of energy that gets used and the only product from this technique is steam, so a minimal release of fumes, we also had the ash provided to us by a local timber supplier that was sawn from forest management.
I was inspired by artwork for this piece and often have blank walls that need something filled, so by having a flat framed lighting fixture on the wall it added some warmth but would still be a functional piece when not in use.
